The geometry of the tremor model, consisting of a thin channel connecting two large reservoirs (Julian 1994). The channel has an elliptical cross-section with half lengths of a and b (\(\delta =a/b\ll 1\)) and length L. The mean vertical flow speed is v, which is driven by the effective pressure difference between the upstream, \(p_1\), and the downstream, \(p_2\). The right-hand Cartesian coordinate (x, y, z) is taken with the x-axis in the flow direction and the y-axis parallel to the ellipse’s minor axis. The inset figure shows the position of the channel projected onto the z–y and z–x planes. The origin of the coordinate axes is set at the center of the channel
