Relationship between seismic amplitude and infrasonic amplitude for various types of volcanic earthquakes at Miyakejima. The vertical component of the seismic signal is used in all plots. The solid circles denote earthquakes with ash ejection, and the open circles denote the ones with no ash ejection. All seismic amplitudes are those at V.MYSA station, and each infrasonic amplitude is the average of four stations. Seismic amplitudes were normalized to the amplitude at MIYKE if the amplitude was saturated at V.MYSA. Data points labeled 1 to 3 correspond to the three large eruptions on 10, 18, and 29 August 2000, respectively (see the text for the explanation of ‘group A’ and ‘group B’).
