The double-headed arrow indicates a region of middle crust with Vp of 6.3 to 6.8 km/s. The checkerboard pattern can be recovered to a depth of 15 km under the ridge, with the deeper part mainly determined by forward modeling. The position of the profile on the bathymetric map is shown in the top right panel.
