Estimated slip distribution from March-April 1996 to March-April 1998. Slip arrows indicate the motion of the overriding plate against the subducting Philippine Sea plate. Small circles at the tips of arrows in the upper figure indicate the estimation errors. Slip arrows in the lower figure were selected when sizes were greater than the errors, and slip directions ranged between east and south. Green circles indicate the epicenters of low-frequency earthquakes from January 2006 to December 2010. Thin black contours show the depths of the upper boundary of the Philippine Sea slab (Hirose et al. 2008).
