Model dispersion relations used for wave mode identification in the wavenumber-frequency spectra in Figure 2 . Dispersion relations are obtained by solving the linearized Vlasov equation for beta 0.1 and quasi-perpendicular wavevectors to the large-scale magnetic field. IB1 denotes the fundamental ion Bernstein mode, IB2 its second harmonic, and IC the ion cyclotron mode.
