Solar wind conditions and the SYM-H time profiles estimated from the original Burton’s model and our model. We used the parameter pair that best fits the observed SYM-H for the November 2004 storm. The solar wind inputs are almost the same as those estimated by Tsurutani (2003), Siscoe et al. (2006), and Li et al. (2006) except for the duration of southward IMF. A longer duration was used for this study. IMF, interplanetary magnetic field; Bz, the Z component of the magnetic field; GSM, geocentric solar magnetospheric; SYM-H, symmetric disturbance field in the horizontal direction.
