The inset shows a plot for seismicity prior to the M6.5 shock for different periods: 18 years (crosses), 12 years (gray downward-pointing triangles), 6 years (yellow diamonds), and 3 years (blue circles). Data for the 3-year period are fitted with an inverse power law with η = 1.35. The deviation point, below which an inverse power law is no longer valid, is marked by Δr c . Gray shading indicates distances larger than 55 km, beyond which data are referred to as background density levels
