The black circles show the velocity distribution for various rock types at 200 MPa (Christensen 1996). The black triangles show the velocity distribution for partially serpentinized peridotite (Christensen 1966); 'p' and 'r' represent serpentinized volumes of 29.4 and 52.7%, respectively. The white triangle 'q' represents the estimated velocities for 35% serpentinization. Points A and B represent the velocities at the rupture propagation and rupture termination points, respectively; these points are shown in Fig. 7 and referred to in Table 1
