Table 1. Correlation coefficients between monthly and annually averaged CAPE and temperature at the 100-hPa level over the Delhi, Kolkata, Cochin, and Trivandrum stations. Using the monthly averaged data, R xy is statistically significant (using Student’s t-test) at the 1% significance level at Delhi and Kolkata and significant at the 5% significance level at Trivandrum. However, it is insignificant at Cochin station. In contrast, using the annually averaged data, R xy is statistically significant at the 5% significance level at the Kolkata and Cochin stations and insignificant at the Delhi and Trivandrum stations.
