Detection limits of subsurface volume changes by using extensometers at 20 km away from the epicenter (circles), and by using GPS installed at an optimum point (triangles). The extensometer is assumed to be set in the radial direction from the source. GPS measures the horizontal displacement. Resolutions of extensometers and GPS are assumed to be 1.0 × 10−9 (dimensionless) and 1.0 mm, respectively.
