Three fault models with one SSE area, one earthquake (EQ) area, and the other intermediate zone. In terms of the distance between the SSE area and EQ area, model 1 is the long-distance model, model 2 is the short-distance model, and model 3 is the zero-distance model. The locations of the SSE areas are the same in both models. The length of the major axes of the SSE area and EQ area is 100 km and that of the minor axes is 50 km. The slip direction is the up/down direction in the figures. On the four sides of the faults, we set a steady-slip zone at a width of 22.6 km for reducing effects of the periodic boundary conditions (e.g., Kato, 2004).
