Dotted circles show summit crater areas of Naka-Machineshiri and Pon-Machineshiri. There are several craters within the Pon-Machineshiri crater. The 2008 eruption occurred at the 96-1 crater on the southern rim of the Pon-Machineshiri crater. The 2006 eruption opened new pits in the northwestern rim of the Akanuma crater, on the opposite side of the Pon-Machineshiri crater
