The dependence of the recursive mean of the azimuthal mode number on the arc MLAT position for the 31 wave-like substorm auroral arc events. The recursive mean of the azimuthal mode number is computed from the arc PSD histogram shown in Fig. 4 by averaging over 60 s before the azimuthal mode number values spreads to a wide range. The recursive mean is regarded as the mean value of the azimuthal mode number and the error bar represents the ±σ deviation from the mean value
