Blue circles, red squares, green triangles, and purple diamonds represent the data from three different models of PB2002 (Bird 2003), NNR-MORVEL (Argus et al. 2011), GSRM v2.1 (Kreemer et al. 2014) in no-net-rotation, and hotspot reference frame, respectively (see “Additional file 2: Table S1” for the details). Vertical bars represent the difference in rotation rate of a plate among the three plate models, and the downward arrows indicate that both clockwise and counterclockwise rotations occur depending on the plate models with different reference frames. The dashed line represents the expected rotation rate driven by the motion of the Pacific plate (\({\sim }10\) cm/year)
