Fig. 6

Foreshocks, coseismic slip, and afterslip of the Mw 7.3 largest foreshock (Hino et al. 2014) superimposed on the fault distribution map. Green, red, and black stars represent epicenters of the Mw 9.0 mainshock, the Mw 7.3 largest foreshock, and the Mw 6.6 s largest foreshock of the 2011 Tohoku-Oki earthquake, respectively. Aqua stars represent the epicenters in February, 2011 foreshocks; the red plus signs indicate the epicenters of the seismicity from February 13, 2011 to the occurrence of the Mw 7.3 foreshock (Ito et al. 2013); and the black dots are the epicenters of foreshocks that occurred between the occurrence of the Mw 7.3 foreshock and the mainshock (Hino et al. 2014). The regions with more than 30 m coseismic slip in the mainshock (Iinuma et al. 2012), more than 1 m coseismic slip in the largest foreshock, and more than 0.3 m afterslip following the largest foreshock (Ohta et al. 2012) are shaded in pink, green, and blue, respectively
