Observed seismograms during the foreshock of the 1930 Kita-Izu earthquake of M7.3 at the University of Tokyo (after Imamura 1931). Mainshock records were all off-scale. We can see a very prominent phase of surface waves in the later part (from about 4 times the S-P time), especially in the NS component
