Topography and major tectonic features of the region surrounding the 2005/07/20 Hatanbulag earthquake. Focal mechanisms are from the Global CMT catalog. Yellow dots show events with magnitudes 2 ≤ M ≤ 4.9 that occurred since 1964 (earthquake location data for 1964–2006 from the NSDC Mongolia, 2006–2008 from NEIC). Faults are from the National Atlas of the Mongolian People’s Republic. The red boxes in the inset map outline the area represented in Fig. 1 and Fig. 2.
